Though LGBT pride should be celebrated every day Sheffield has expanded their usual Pride Sheffield celebration to a fortnight in 2017, providing a wealth of activities and entertainment to honor the great men and women who make up this exciting community of people.
Other highlights of the 2-week long event are as follows:
Pride Festival – Held in Endcliffe Park, the festival date is July 29th. This Saturday event runs from 12 noon to 7 p.m. and is free for everyone to attend. Features include local and national acts playing on the main stage, providing top quality music for everyone to enjoy. Host Steve Slack keeps the entertainment going between acts. T’Other Stage, located within the community tent, workshops and discussions will be held, along with some cabaret acts and other performances. A lively marketplace is available too.
Pride Parade – The parade begins near Champs on Pear Street, and 12 noon and travels along Ecclesall Road before reaching its destination at the Endcliffe Park. The parade includes a number of floats as well as walking entries and takes about an hour to reach the Park.
Pride After Party – Held at Climax at Sheffield Students' Union this is the place to be after the festival ends. Lady Ga Ga tribute singers, Karaoke in Bar One and Funky Beavers. A not-to-be-missed event.
Activities
The celebration is kicked off with a free community picnic (Sheffield Pinknic) held at Peace Gardens. This event is hosted by LGBT Sheffield and features live music, activities and stalls for the entire family to enjoy.
